Exciting updates are coming to Dead by Daylight in April, featuring a brand-new Blood Moon event, the highly anticipated Tokyo Ghoul chapter, and new map variants to diversify gameplay. Here’s everything you need to know about these upcoming additions.
Blood Moon Event: A New Generator Mechanic
The Blood Moon event (April 9th to April 29th) will introduce a significant change to the classic generator repair mechanics. Instead of repairing generators, Survivors will need to fill up blood canisters by collecting blood scattered across the map. Killers, on the other hand, will have a new tactical advantage—they can kick these modified generators, completely resetting the fuel count, forcing Survivors to start over. This new mechanic will add an extra layer of strategy and tension to matches during the event.

The new blood moon event will start on April 7th:

2 out of 5 generators will be Blood Generators, and to complete them, blood must be collected from service stations scattered around the map. After that, the canister must be brought to these special generators.#dbd #tokyoghoul pic.twitter.com/2Bwo54Sqer
Tokyo Ghoul Chapter Arrives Today
One of the biggest additions to Dead by Daylight this year is the highly anticipated Tokyo Ghoul chapter, launching today on April 2. This chapter will introduce:
Ken Kaneki as the new Killer, bringing his ghoul abilities into the Fog.
Rize Kamishiro as a Legendary Skin, featuring an entirely different voiceover from Kaneki.
Additional themed skins for various characters in the game.
To immerse players even further into the Tokyo Ghoul universe, the Dead by Daylight lobby will change to Kaneki’s infamous torture chamber, one of the most pivotal and haunting moments from the anime and manga.

What is Tokyo Ghoul?
Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida, first serialized in 2011. The story follows Ken Kaneki, a shy college student who finds himself transformed into a half-ghoul after a fateful encounter with a ghoul named Rize Kamishiro. Ghouls are monstrous beings that live among humans but survive only by consuming human flesh. Kaneki’s life changes forever as he struggles to accept his new reality, navigating the treacherous balance between humanity and the horrific instincts of a ghoul.
The series quickly became a global phenomenon, praised for its dark, immersive storytelling, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes surrounding identity, survival, and morality. The success of the original manga led to several anime adaptations, including Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo Ghoul √A, and Tokyo Ghoul:re, along with video games, light novels, and merchandise that cemented its cultural impact worldwide.
New Map Variants: Day/Night Cycles & Shack-Focused Maps
Developers are also working on day and night variants for some maps, providing different atmospheres and visual styles. Additionally, Toba Landing and Grave of Glenvale will be receiving new shack-focused variants, meaning the maps will have no primary structures in the center—only the shack.
The latest of these shack-only maps, Dead Sands, will officially be added to the game on April 2, alongside the Tokyo Ghoul update. This new variant is currently available for testing in the Public Test Build (PTB).
Boulet Brothers Collaboration – New Skin Coming This Summer
As part of an ongoing collaboration with the Boulet Brothers, a brand-new cosmetic will be introduced this summer. This skin will be based on a fan-created design that won a community challenge, adding a unique and exciting addition to Dead by Daylight’s growing list of customization options.

New Dead by Daylight Insights: Upcoming Themes, Lost Licenses, and a Magician Survivor
Behaviour Interactive has recently shared intriguing details about Dead by Daylight’s past, present, and future. One revelation involves early escape mechanics that were considered before the Hatch was finalized—ideas included starting a car, using a boat, or calling the police and surviving until their arrival. Additionally, the developers confirmed they once lost a highly anticipated licensed character, but that concept was repurposed into an original Killer that has been in the game for years.
Another fascinating insight is how Disney nearly rejected the inclusion of Jonesy, the cat from Alien, during the collaboration, initially suggesting an original dog named Ramirez for Dead by Daylight’s version of Ripley. Ultimately, Disney approved Jonesy, much to fans’ delight. Meanwhile, Behaviour is currently in discussions with a well-known magician to become a Survivor, with Perks centered around illusions and sleight-of-hand tricks.
As for the future, Behaviour has revealed some bold themes they plan to explore in upcoming original Chapters, including Post-Apocalyptic settings, Cartoon horror, Possession, and even the psychological terror of politics and sports. Whether or not these ideas sound scary at first, the developers believe they can be terrifying when executed correctly. Additionally, they’ve confirmed that every Chapter in the next year will feature at least one new Character, Perk, Cosmetic, and voice actor, ensuring a fresh experience for players.
Archives Revamp & Quest System
The Archive will be updated, allowing players to complete multiple challenges simultaneously instead of just one at a time, and you can now see quests (challenges) in-trial when you pause the game!
